Organization Accuses High School Of Racist Practices

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A civil rights organization is accusing an Orange County high school of racist practices. Members of the Florida Civil Rights Association delivered a discrimination complaint to the Orange County school board building Thursday.
The group alleges segregation in the school district, discriminatory FCAT enrollment practices and the school's failure to comply with a multi-cultural curriculum mandate.Latasha Farmer was a teacher at Edgewater High School. She said her contract wasn't renewed partly because she tried to start a student civil rights club."Yes, I did think it was racially motivated," she said.Orange County schools said there is a multi-cultural curriculum in place and two African-American student clubs were in the works for next school year.As for Farmer's claim of discrimination, in a legal memo, the school's principal said Farmer struggled with communication, teamwork and following directions.
