Cop Impersonator Arrested

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. -- 20-year-old Delano Tavares was arrested Wednesday. Deputies say the Kissimmee Security Guard pretended to be a cop and actually pulled people over.Investigators first learned about Tavares from a coworker. The coworker had allegedly seen Tavares pull people over.On Wednesday, Osceola County Deputies followed Tavares to see if they could catch him in the act. Instead, Tavares actually tried to pull one of the deputies over in Orange County."It could have been a power position, where he felt like he was overpowering the people he was pulling over," said Twis Lizasuain, Osceola County Sheriff's Office.Deputies found red and blue lights, a gun belt with a taser, and a fake badge in Tavares' car.Tavares was on probation for theft when he was arrested. His desire to act like a law enforcement officer landed him on the wrong side of the law. Tavares remained in the Osceola County Jail Friday night.The Ford Taurus Tavares was driving was dark gray. Recently, he was seen driving a 1999 Lexus. Deputies hope anyone Tavares may have pulled over will come forward.
