MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Florida teacher is facing charges after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student. Police in Miami-Dade County arrested Julio Polo after, they said, he had sex with a 16-year-old student at John Ferguson Senior High School.

Investigators said the pair had sex both on and off school grounds. Polo resigned from the school last summer, but one of his former students is standing behind him.

"He was my wrestling coach. I've been with him for a year. I know that doesn't seem a lot, but I do really care him and I know he won't do that," said Rodney Diaz, the suspect's former student.

Polo was charged with battery and unlawful sexual activity. Criminal charges were filed after an investigation by school leaders was turned over to police.
