Monday, August 28, 2006 – updated: 6:22 pm EDT August 28, 2006

An active search was underway Monday evening for a hit and run suspect. Police said the man hit an Orlando police officer while the officer was waving for the man to pull over.

Detectives were looking for 19-year-old Jose Miranda. Investigators said he hit a motorcycle officer in a school zone on Conway Road.

Eyewitnesses said the officer was trying to flag Miranda down because he was speeding. That's when Miranda reportedly hit the officer and kept on going.

The officer was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was treated for some broken bones.
