Broken gas line forces road closures in downtown Winter Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. — A natural gas leak caused road closures in a busy part of Winter Park Thursday morning.

Firefighters were on scene as crews worked to contain the leak near the intersection of Canton and Park avenues, Winter Park Fire-Rescue reported.

Crews are currently operating on a natural gas leak at the intersection of Park and Canton Avenues. All roads in this area are closed. Please avoid the area as our crews work.

The city’s fire dispatch center said residents and visitors should expect a small stretch of Canton Avenue to remain closed until repairs can be completed. The closure runs between Park Avenue and Center Street.

Fire officials initially shut down a section of N. Park Avenue, but by 9 a.m., announced it had reopened.

Eyewitness News has learned construction work in the area caused the broken gas line.

No injuries have been reported.
