• Driver crashes into Kissimmee home

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. - Officials said a driver lost control and crashed into a Kissimmee house on Sunday, sparking a fire inside the home.

The crash happened shortly before 6:00 a.m. at a home on Spoon Place in Kissimmee.

Troopers said the driver, who was traveling on Country Club Road, lost control of his Nissan as he came around a curve on the roadway.

Officials said the driver, 45-year-old Trevor Ricketts, went over a median and left the roadway before crashing into a fence and the back of the house.

Neighbors said they were awakened by the loud crash.

"First, when I heard the sound I thought the car came through my house," said one neighbor.

The Nissan crashed through the master bedroom, where the homeowner was sleeping, according to officials.

"When he came in, he actually hit the bed. The guy was in the bed and it started the mattress on fire," said Osceola County Deputy Fire Chief Danny McAvoy.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, but the home sustained severe damage from the crash.

The homeowner was treated on scene for minor injuries. The driver suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to officials.

Troopers said they cited Ricketts for careless driving.
