Troopers: Man, woman killed in Volusia County I-95 crash

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers said a man and a woman from North Carolina died in a crash on I-95 in Volusia County early Saturday.

The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 in the Ormond Beach area.

According to FHP, the victims were traveling northbound in a Pontiac sedan when they approached a semi truck driven by 58-year-old Jose Guzman. Witnesses told investigators the male victim was driving in an aggressive manner as he came upon the semi truck.

Guzman decided to pull over onto the shoulder in order to get out of the way of the Pontiac, troopers said. As the semi truck began to slow down and pull over, the Pontiac crashed into the back of it.

The driver, who has been identified as 20-year-old George Jarosv, and his female passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene. Guzman was not injured.

The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the identity of the female victim. Both victims are from North Carolina, according to troopers.

The crash remains under investigation.
