Former USF Polytechnic chancellor resigns

LAKELAND, Fla. — The former chancellor of the University of South Florida Polytechnic has resigned.

University officials confirmed Friday USF had received and accepted Marshall Goodman's resignation, effective immediately.

Goodman had helped spearhead the push toward making the USF branch a separate institution, now known as Florida Polytechnic University. Gov. Rick Scott signed a measure into law in April making the school an independent public university.

USF President Judy Genshaft demoted Goodman in December. He was placed on leave but still on the payroll with a $262,432 salary.

Goodman was also under internal investigation amid allegations of financial mismanagement. USF spokeswoman Laura Wade Martinez said the resignation made any further investigation of Goodman "unnecessary and impractical."
