Father of 3 killed in Orange County motorcycle crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that shut down a busy Orange County road Tuesday morning.

Investigators said the motorcyclist died instantly when an SUV hit him on Goldenrod Road near Charlin Parkway.

The crash happened when Patricia Mullins, 73, turned left from Goldenrod Road onto a side street, and the motorcycle rider did not have a chance to hit the brakes before he collided with the SUV.

Troopers said Mullins miscalculated the speed of the motorcycle before turning left in front of Kyle Allen Morton, 29.

Morton was ejected from the motorcycle and died instantly, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Witnesses said both drivers had a green light.

FHP said motorcycle fatalities are rising in the area, and drivers in cars need to be just as careful as the riders.

"Any time you are involved in a crash where you're outside of a vehicle and on a motorcycle, you're much more vulnerable than being inside a vehicle," said Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said Morton lived near the crash scene and worked the overnight shift at Walt Disney World.

He leaves behind a wife and three kids.

Charges are pending against Mullins.
