Parish Medical Center Auxiliary President Elected East Central District Director

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — New Role Will Serve 19 Hospital Volunteer Organizations

Serving his second term as Parrish Medical Center’s  auxiliary president, Michael Van Heusen was recently elected East Central Director of the Association of Florida Healthcare Auxiliaries/Volunteers. (AFHAV).

Van Heusen will serve the auxiliary/volunteer organizations of 19 hospitals. Through educational meetings, he will assist these organizations to exchange and share ideas, organize new volunteer groups, expand services and promote health education in the community. “Simply stated,” said Van Heusen, “my responsibility is to help these auxiliary/volunteer organizations better serve their healthcare organizations.”

As president of PMC’s Auxiliary, Van Heusen has made recruiting new volunteers his primary focus. During the last year 124 auxilians completed the application, interview, and orientation process. They are volunteering in almost every area of PMC and its family of off-site facilities and services. PMC Auxilians range in age from 15 to 92.

Last year, PMC auxilians donated 64,090 hours of service. “They generously donate their time and talents because they want to make a difference in other people’s lives,” said Van Heusen. “Often new volunteers simply want to give back to the hospital because they had a great experience at PMC.”
