Lake County home searched in connection with manhunt for suspected police killer

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County deputies searched a home Tuesday for Markeith Loyd, who is accused of shooting and killing Orlando police Master Sgt. Debra Clayton.

Loyd has been a wanted man since last month, when he was accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Sade Dixon.

Deputies said they received word that Loyd might be hiding out in a home on Cape Hatteras Drive.

“He’s not there. We know nothing about this man, other than what we heard on the radio,” said homeowner Larry Brodsky.

Deputies told him that it was an emergency.

“I said they could search outside, but they decided to search inside,” Brodsky said.

Deputies said they were given permission to search the home, but did not find the suspect.

Channel 9’s Myrt Price asked Brodsky why deputies believed Loyd had a connection to the home.

“My girlfriend played cards with the girl (Dixon), and that was the total amount of interaction we had with them,” Brodsky said.

He said his girlfriend was devastated when she heard about Dixon’s death.

“She knew the girl very well. They played cards and she knew she was pregnant and it was horrible,” Brodsky said.

He said they never met Loyd and they hope authorities find him soon.

“We’re not hiding him. If I knew where he was, I’d give him up in a minute,” said Brodsky.
