1 killed, child shot in shooting in Daytona Beach apartment parking lot, police say

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy was hit in the crossfire of a shooting that killed one man and injured another in a Daytona Beach apartment complex parking lot late Saturday, police said.

Police said Donald Cottle, 37, was shot and killed along the 600 block of Jean Street just before 11 p.m.

An argument between three men in the parking lot ended with a shooting, police said.

A 45-year-old man, who police did not identify, was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Halifax Hospital where he was treated and released, according to an incident report.

The 12-year-old, who was shot in the chest, is being treated at Arnold Palmer hospital, said Wanda Aarons, the boy's grandmother.

"Just turn yourself in," she said. "There's a young man who lost his life, number one. And number two, the other two victims, which one is my grandson, who is now also going to maybe have to have some major surgery."
