10 dogs dead, 7 others in 'deplorable' conditions in Florida woman's home

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Authorities wearing hazmat suits and gas masks say they found 10 dead dogs and at least seven other mistreated canines inside a Boca Raton home that was filled with trash.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Captain David Walesky tells news organizations that authorities raided the home after an anonymous animal abuse tip came in on Monday.

Inside, investigators found the caged dogs as well as trash piled at least 3-feet high.

Walesky says an unidentified woman who lives at the home will be facing criminal charges. Walesky says a man also lives there, but it is unclear whether he will be charged.

The woman declined to comment.

The surviving dogs were taken to Animal Care and Control to be examined by veterinarians.
