11 arrested in Altamonte Springs undercover drug sting

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Altamonte Springs police arrested 11 people on suspicion of selling drugs at an extended stay motel, authorities said Wednesday.

The bust happened at the Remington Inn and Suites on Douglas Avenue as part of a three-week undercover investigation.

Investigators said they were responding to so many calls to the inn that they knew something was going on, so they sent in undercover officers, who then began serving arrest warrants.

"They were responding to a lot of calls, a lot of calls, three times more calls than any other property in that zone," said Robert Pelton of the Altamonte Springs Police Department. "Most of these calls were drug-related."

Undercover officers went into the motel, and within a few weeks, the officers were setting up and carrying out drug deals, buying everything from cocaine, marijuana and even prescription medication, said officials.

"These weren't just your low-end dealers, they were convicted felons carrying weapons and creating violence in the community," Pelton said.

Police said there could be a few more arrests.
