19-year-old Sanford woman jailed for pretending to smother infant

SANFORD, Fla. — A 19-year-old Sanford woman has been sentenced to two months in jail for making a video of herself pretending to smother her 7-month-old son and sending it to the baby’s father.

After Samantha Nicole Salinas sent the video to the baby’s father, he took it to authorities.

Salinas and her family have said that she made the video as a stunt because the boy’s father wasn’t paying child support.

Detectives said the 4-second video showed the baby squirming and crying the entire time.

A note accompanying the video said, “Good luck finding your son’s body,” investigators said.

Police said Salinas confessed to making the video in May and pleaded no contest in September to felony child abuse charges.

She could have faced up to five years in prison on the charges.

The child now lives with his father’s mother, The Associated Press reported.
