DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Authorities arrested two people who are accused of forcing a 16-year-old runaway to have sex at Orlando and Daytona Beach hotels.
According to the arrest affidavit, Kristi Haney and Jose Ojeda gave the teen alcohol and cocaine and coaxed her into taking provocative photos for ads they placed online. They then allegedly forced her to first have sex with up to 10 customers a day.
"The traffickers always look for that vulnerability," said Tomas Lares of the Greater Orlando Human Trafficking Task Force. "They need a shelter. They need food."
The teen told investigators she made more than $1,000 by having sex with customers at the Host Inn in Daytona Beach, which she had to hand over to Ojeda.
She told deputies the group had a text message code system to keep track of customers as they went in and out of the room.
Court records show Haney and Ojeda trained the girl first by having her listen in on phone calls from potential johns.
The girl's father had been looking for her online and eventually tracked her down on an escort website and then contacted deputies to help find his daughter.
When authorities moved in, they found the girl found hiding under a bed with her accused pimp as police raided the room looking for her.
The victim has been reunited with her family.
Haney and Ojeda both face human trafficking charges.
