2 arrested after 7 children found living in moldy, bug-infested home

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Two women were arrested Wednesday after Daytona Beach police found them living with seven children in deplorable conditions.

One officer noted in a report it was the worst living conditions he has seen children exposed to in a 28-year career.

Police said the conditions were so poor at the Jean Street apartment, they would arrest someone for letting an animal live there.

The three girls and four boys in the home range in ages from 1 to 8.

Investigators said they are the children of sisters Shameka and Melida Jenkins.

Officers went to the home to check out a report of a domestic disturbance, but when they arrived, they found the children running around in a home filled with urine, mold and feces.
