2 boaters that fell in water rescued hours later

MIAMI — Two people have been rescued in the waters near Hallandale Beach hours after they fell off their boat in Key Largo.

The Coast Guard Sector Miami says an off-duty detective and firefighter found Sean McGovern, 50, and Mellisa Morris, 52, early Saturday morning. The pair said they fell from their 30-foot Island Hopper boat and were distanced from the vessel around 6 p.m. Friday.  They treaded water throughout the night until being found.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said the couple spent about 14 hours treading water.

The two were without floatation devices and had nothing to signal help from other boaters, but were not injured. Friends picked them up at the Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale.

The boat washed up on the beach in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday afternoon.
