2 die when car strikes tree along Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Two people died Sunday evening when a car veered off the roadway and struck a tree along Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. near mile marker 265, the exit for LPGA Boulevard, Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Troopers said the two people were pronounced dead at the crash scene.

One northbound lane of the interstate was closed for emergency vehicles, Montes said.

No other information was released.
