Victims identified in fatal Ormond Beach crash

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were called to the 277 mile marker of northbound I-95 near Old Dixie Highway just after Saturday morning in reference to a crash involving a semitruck and a van.

Troopers said Javier Flores, 50, was driving the semitruck northbound in the center lane and Angel Benitez, 63, was driving his Ford passenger van in the outside lane when Flores veered into Benitez's lane and struck the van.

Benitez's van overturned on the shoulder of the road, and he, along with another woman in his van, Angela Benitez, were killed, according to FHP.

Six other passengers were taken to the hospital in serious condition, troopers said.

Flores was not hurt.

The inside northbound lane near Old Dixie Highway was closed for hours as authorities investgate, but has since reopened.

Troopers have not said if anyone will be charged.
