2 mothers file lawsuit against train company

BARTOW, Fla. — A lawsuit has been filed by the mothers of two Mulberry men who died last year when a CSX train struck their vehicle at a railroad crossing.
 
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Polk County Circuit Court and seeks $20 million in damages from the company.
 
Anthony Young and Eren Askew were killed in the Feb. 24 crash. Young was driving the SUV, and Askew was a passenger. The Florida Highway Patrol said the vehicle attempted to cross the railroad tracks and was hit.
 
The lawsuit alleges that CSX did not properly maintain trees and brush, and obscured the oncoming train.
 
A CSX spokeswoman told the Lakeland Ledger that the company doesn't comment on pending litigation.
