2 teen cousins shot in separate Florida incidents

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two 17-year-old cousins are recovering from shotgun wounds received in separate drive-by shootings on the same Jacksonville street.

Authorities said one teen was shot in the leg early Sunday when someone in a passing car fired 15 shots. A couple of hours later another vehicle fired 20 shots a short distance away, striking the second teen.

One area newspaper said police and fire officials had just left the scene of the first shooting when the second one happened.

The street is in the Sheriff's Office Operation Ceasefire zone, which as increased police presence to confront growing gun violence.

Police said violence had decreased during the operation, but on Friday, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the head during a shooting and a 16-year-old was fatally shot Thursday.
