2 weeks in, Orange County School bus pickup still confusing, parents say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County students are nearly two weeks into the school year, and there is still confusion over school bus pick-up times.

Eyewitness News reported last week that students in West Orange County missed the bus.

Students told Channel 9's Jeff Deal that they had another sudden shift in their bus pick-up time.

Student said they got picked up a bus stop at 6:34 a.m. Tuesday, but by Wednesday morning, the pickup time changed to 6:15.

West Orange High School student Geraldine Ramos went to her bus stop, long before other students arrived, but she said the bus never did.

Ramo’s grandmother told Eyewitness News that she later learned the school pickup time change after another parent posted the change on social media.

"Her bus that was scheduled to come at 6:34 yesterday is now scheduled for 6:15. We received no notice from OCPS that there was a change,” The social post said.

Eyewitness News reported last week on the first day of school, other West Orange High students missed the bus because a letter they received showed one pick-up time, but on the district website, it changed before the first day of school.

So, some students who didn't check the website missed the bus and were late for school.

The district told Eyewitness News that routes are subject to change as they add new students and adjust routes.

Parents and students are wondering why they didn’t receive notice of the change, and wondering if they'll now have to check the pick-up time every day.

"I always want to have perfect attendance and I think that really messed it up a little,” Geraldine Ramos said.

Eyewitness News asked the district why it doesn't send alerts when the time changes, but haven’t received an answer yet.

School board member Pam Gould also posted on social media she would be sending it to the district operations chief.
