2 women in car drag policeman at Beall's Outlet

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police are searching for two women who they say dragged a police officer with their car Wednesday afternoon.

Officer Joe Yorkey, along with a security guard, approached two women getting into a car in the parking lot of a Bealls Outlet where they were suspected of stealing clothing, according to a release.

Yorkey started questioning the woman in the driver's seat, who started the car and made a motion that she was going to drive away.

Yorkey tried to stop her, and she started to struggle.

During the struggle, the woman put the car into gear and drove off with Yorkey partially in the car, ripping his police radio from his belt.

Yorkey was dragged a short distance before he was thrown to the ground.

The security guard called for help on Yorkey's ripped-off police radio.

Investigators said they believe they know who the women are and are looking for them.

Both face criminal charges of resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer and retail theft.
