ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 3-year-old boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool near Ormond Beach Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to a home on Rodeo Acres Drive after receiving a 911 call about 3:45 p.m.
When deputies and paramedics arrived, the stepfather had the child out of the pool and was trying to resuscitate him. Paramedics took over CPR efforts and took the child to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in Ormond Beach where he was pronounced dead.
The toddler’s stepfather and an older sibling were home at the time of the drowning, and investigators believe the child had been missing for at least 15 minutes before he was found in the water.
The boy's name has not been released.
There's no word on whether charges will be filed.
