Crashes plague roadway, cause heavy delays on I-4

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — It was a heavy traffic day on central Florida roadways Wednesday morning.

A four-car crash caused huge delays on I-4 westbound at Fairbanks Avenue in Winter Park. The crash occurred at 6:05 a.m. and involved seven vehicles, authorities said. The crash happened after three of the vehicles were stopped due to other traffic. One vehicle ran into the back of another vehicle, starting a chain-reaction crash.  One person was transported with non-life threatening injuries and four cars had to be towed. Another crash occurred in the same location at 8:40 a.m., involving two vehicles with no injuries.

Shortly after, a truck crashed on I-4 eastbound at SR-436, wrapping itself around a pole in Altamonte Springs. Authorities said the driver lost control and crashed into the pole. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.  The crashed caused a two-mile delay.

A five-car crash on I-4 eastbound at Sand Lake Road caused the roadway to shut down. Authorities said four people were hurt in the crash and two were hospitalized.
