7 injured when truck drives through intersection, hits several cars

ORLANDO, Fla. — Seven people were hospitalized after a dump truck blew through an intersection and crashed into several cars, authorities said.

The crash happened Friday morning on Conroy Road and Vineland Road.

Investigators said they are relying on witnesses and the red-light cameras to see whether the driver had the green light when the crash happened.

Authorities said the driver took out a number of signs, jumped the median and crashed into the bushes.

Police said three children were among those hurt in the crash. One of the cars had to be cut so a child could be taken out.

Witnesses told WFTV the truck was trying to stop about 75 feet before the intersection before the crash.

One witness spoke with the driver after the crash.

"He just said, 'I was doing this pumping on the brakes and nothing happened.' But, he just looked out of it and he was in the back of the police car," said the witness.

Orlando police did not say whether there was an issue with the driver's brake system.

The seven people are in the hospital in stable condition.
