Tanker spills thousands of gallons of gas on I-4 in Polk County

LAKELAND, Fla. - Hazmat crews spent Wednesday morning cleaning up a fuel spill that closed part of eastbound Interstate 4 in Polk County.

Troopers said a tanker truck hauling 8,700 gallons of gasoline lost control and crashed into a guardrail near Kathleen Road in Lakeland.

Officials said at least 1,100 gallons of gas leaked onto the road.

The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Part of the roadway was closed for several hours.
