Accused Volusia County gunman identified through YouTube video, deputies say

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Volusia County deputies said they were able to identify and arrest an accused gunman Friday in part due to a video of him on YouTube.

Shantonio Kemp, 25, is accused of firing off his gun July 22 in the parking lot at Coco’s Night Club near Ormond Beach, deputies said. One of the stray bullets hit a 24-year-old woman in her thigh. She is expected to recover.

The victim told deputies that, moments before the shooting, she saw Kemp swearing at someone outside the club before firing his pistol into the air and running away.

Deputies said they tracked Kemp down because of his distinctive clothing and appearance in a YouTube video from the party.

Deputies said they were able to determine from the video that Kemp was wearing clothing with flamingos on it. The video of Kemp wearing the same clothing was uploaded to YouTube.

Kemp faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

"You got a guy who basically urinates all over society," said Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. "He don't care because the system doesn't do anything to him."

Kemp has prior charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Investigators said the owner of Coco's used to own Papi's Bottle Club, where deputies said they've had problems with shootings before.

A man was shot outside Papi's in 2012 and another was killed in 2013, records showed.

"As chief of Daytona Beach, I couldn't do much because it was in the county. But now, as the sheriff, you can rest assured we are coming after him," Chitwood said.
