Apartment complex could break ground near Millenia Mall

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Another new development is slated to go up near the Mall at Millenia.

Developers want to build a new apartment complex on Millenia Boulevard.

The new development is being built through a wooded area and will likely require extending Cathy Street so some of the traffic can flow straight to John Young Parkway.

The area around the Mall at Millenia is growing again, with a proposed new development called the Gardens on Millenia.

The potential construction site is only marked with a sign advertising a public hearing later in November.

If the property owners have their way, they'll soon be bulldozing the land and reshaping a pond on the property to make more room.

They're proposing a 310-unit apartment complex, but the future could hold much more for the property just off Millenia Boulevard.

The proposal estimates about 13,000 more car trips throughout a year in and out of the complex, and a city report found it will not adversely impact traffic in the area.

Potential plans call for a multi-use property that includes retail and office space, along with new anchor stores next to Home Depot like Costco or another large box store.

The property sits among other such stores and plenty of nearby apartment complexes would be neighbors.

There are many environmental permits to be pulled, so redevelopment of the land and construction of basic infrastructure is not expected to begin until at least late next year.
