Men hit Orlando Homewood Suites in 11th recent hotel robbery

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police continue to search for a pair of gunmen who robbed the Homewood Suites near the Orlando International Airport late Wednesday night.

Channel 9 learned Thursday that investigators believe the robbery on Gateway Village Circle in Orlando is connected to recent hold-ups in the area.

A couple of weeks ago, several law enforcement agencies connected a string of more than 10 similar hotel robberies to at least two people.

In those robberies, along with Wednesday night's hold-up, two masked men armed with guns barged into the hotels and demanded money from the employees.

Officers said no one was hurt during the Homewood Suites robbery. The men took an undisclosed amount of money from the register, ordered the clerk into an office closet and fled the scene.

A witness said they saw a beige or tan Toyota speeding from the hotel with its headlights off, officers said.

"Not safe. Doesn't make me feel very good about staying here anymore," said hotel guest Kevin Barbaria.

"I think it would be more safe to have security walking through the hotels if this has happened more than once," said hotel guest Dana Ilias, of Canada.

In December, officials released surveillance video of two other robberies -- a Homewood Inn in Lake Mary and a Homewood Suites in Orlando. Authorities believe the same men are responsible for those two, as well as nine other robberies.

Officials said they're having a hard time catching the robbers because the men move fast and are quick to flee before authorities arrive.

Anyone with information about the hotel robberies or the identity of the suspects is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
