Winter Park man accused of sexually assaulting neighbor

WINTER PARK, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Monday it has arrested a man believed to have brutally attacked and raped a woman in her Winter Park apartment last month.

Deputies said Florentino Apolonio, 30, was arrested at his Semoran Boulevard apartment, which is one building over from the victim's, without incident on Saturday evening.

The victim told authorities someone knocked on her door at the Affinity apartment complex on July 11 and when she opened it, she saw a man standing outside. The armed man forced his way into the apartment and sexually assaulted the woman, deputies said.

The man then fled the scene and the victim reported the crime to law enforcement.

Authorities said the woman suffered multiple injuries and was treated at a Florida Hospital emergency room.

Authorities said the victim didn't know Apolonio but singled him out of a photo lineup as her attacker.

Deputies said Apolonio was arrested and a search warrant was served on his home, yielding additional items which were seized as evidence.

Apolonio is charged with sexual battery with a weapon, kidnapping, burglary, attempted murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.
