Authorities find car, but no sign of missing 9-year-old Fort Myers girl

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — An Amber Alert was issued Thursday for 9-year-old Diana Alvares, who is missing out of Fort Myers.

According to investigators, Alvares may be in the company of Jorge Guerrero, 28, who has ties to the Orange County and Okeechobee area. Investigators said Diana could be in Central Florida.

Family members said Guerrero lived with them until about a month ago.

Authorities said the tan Chevrolet Malibu they were in has been found, but no other information has been released, and Diana has not been located.

Diana's Mother Rita Hernandez told Channel 9’s Deneige Broom that she is very worried and she wants her daughter found as soon as possible.

"Please if somebody has my daughter Diana, if you see this, please let me know where you are," said Hernandez.

Alvares disappeared from her home Sunday morning and investigators are asking for help locating her.

Alvares’ mother told Lee County deputies that her daughter was in her bed Sunday morning but when she went to check on the girl a few hours later, she was gone.

Alvares’ family does not think the girl ran away.

Authorities said the initial information given to investigators did not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert at that time, but new details have surfaced since then.

Investigators have not released those details.

Anyone with information on Alvares’ whereabouts is asked to call 911, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 239-477-1000, or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 1-800-THE-LOST.
