Baby dies after being found unresponsive at Clermont day care, deputies say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County deputies are investigating the death of a 9-month-old boy.

Deputies said the Zachary Jackson was unresponsive when he was brought to Clermont Centra Care on Tuesday from the Dodd Family Daycare on Summerset Court.

Investigators said the child was found unresponsive inside one of the rooms of the day care.

Medical personnel began CPR until paramedics arrived and took Zachary to South Lake Hospital. The 9-month-old was then flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he died.

It’s not clear how Zachary died or if anything happened to the child while at the day care.

Records show the day care, which is run out of a home in a residential neighborhood, is licensed and has been in operation for more than 30 years.

According to the day care's Facebook page, Joseph Dodd and Debbie Dodd operate the facility. It says Debbie Dodd has 27 years as a state of Florida licensed day care provider. It goes on to say she has an additional 15 years experience as a registered nurse.

The Department of Children and Families issued an order ceasing operations of the day care home. DCF said Florida law requires that anyone who provides child care in their home for more than one unrelated family member must be either registered or licensed through DCF. Registered family day care homes are not inspected by the department.
