BB gun-wielding vandals do damage in Lake and Marion counties

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators said vehicle vandals armed with BB guns are doing a lot of damage in Marion County. They said not even deputies' cruisers or postal carriers' trucks are safe.

Dave Travis' niece near Ocala had her van damaged.

"This is a busy neighborhood. There's cars everywhere, there's kids everywhere and to come out in the morning and see that," said Travis.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office said that over the last few days some two dozen vehicles have been shot up by vandals with BB guns.

On Monday four vehicles, including a deputy's cruiser and a mail truck were damaged.

"I know there are just a lot of hardworking folks who are just frustrated with this kind of stuff, so that's why the Marion County Sheriff's Office is working trying to find every bit of clues, information that we can, so we can find the person or persons responsible and put them in jail," said Judge Cochran of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Over the weekend Channel 9 reported that 65 cars in Lake County had been damaged by the same type of vandalism. So far there haven't been any arrests.

"There's no question they should be caught and they should be held accountable," said Travis.

Investigators Marion County said they are working to figure out if the cases in their county are connected to those in Lake County.
