Officials: Bobby Bowden's grandson killed in Polk County crash

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County deputies are investigating a crash that left two men dead, including Bobby Bowden's grandson, early Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. on Country Club Road South in Winter Haven, deputies said.

According to investigators, the crash involved a single vehicle that left the roadway for unknown reasons and landed upside down in a creek. The car was partially submerged in about five feet of water.

Deputies said the vehicle's driver and front passenger were killed in the crash. The driver was identified as 25-year-old Rafael De Aguiar Valim. The passenger was identified as 23-year-old Taylor Bowden, grandson of former Florida State University head football coach Bobby Bowden.

A third passenger in the back seat, 22-year-old Robert Edwards, survived the crash, officials said. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for hypothermia and injuries.

According to deputies, alcohol appears to be a factor. Friends and family member told investigators the men were at a bar prior to the crash.
