EDGEWATER, Fla. — Edgewater police have identified the man whose body was found in the Halifax River Saturday as 57-year-old Danny Parks.
Police said they received reports of an abandoned, 14-foot boat that had crashed just before 3 a.m. Saturday near the 1500 block of South Riverside Drive.
By 7 a.m. police received a call that a man’s body was found about 200 yards south of where the boat was found.
Florida Fish and Wildlife officials said Parks was not wearing a life vest when they found him.
“If you’re going to go out boating, wear a life jacket,” said FWC Officer Larry Salberg. “In this scene a life jacket may have saved his life. Seventy percent of all fatalities [in water] are due to not wearing a life jacket.”
The investigation is ongoing.
