Bomb squad blows up grenade in Apopka

APOPKA. Fla. — Investigators are still working to figure out how a grenade ended up in an Apopka neighborhood.

Skywitness 9 HD flew over the scene as the Orange County bomb squad detonated the grenade around 5 p.m. Friday.

Investigators said a maintenance worker found the explosive device in front of a vacant mobile home near Welch Road and Park Avenue.

Neighbors watched as the bomb squad blew it up.

"When I saw all this commotion I didn't know what was going on and some said there was a grenade in a mobile home and I said, 'That's pretty scary,'" said area resident Kathy West.

Neighbors said they see a lot of children playing near the vacant mobile home.
