Boy, 10, in critical condition after BB gun shooting

FROSTPROOF, Fla. — Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a shooting incident in which a 10-year-old Frostproof child was critically injured.

Deputies received information about a child being shot with a BB gun, Wednesday night.

Investigators said 10-year-old Skyler Richardson and his 13-year-old brother, Tyler, were outside of the family’s residence on Otto Polk Road shooting targets with their BB rifles.

The boys' mother and her boyfriend were inside their home preparing dinner.

While the boys were playing, Tyler pointed his gun at Skyler and the 10-year-old was struck in the head at close range.  Tylor alerted his mother and emergency medical services were notified.

Skyler was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa where he was listed in critical condition.

The incident appears to be accidental, but an investigation is ongoing.
