PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol says a 7-year-old was killed when a van backing down a driveway ran over him.
Troopers say Ethan V. Estrada was pronounced dead at Peace River Regional Medical Center a short time after the Tuesday evening crash.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports Estrada was in the driveway when 62-year-old Terrance Hunter of Ontario, Canada, began slowly backing out of a garage.
According to an FHP report, as Hunter backed down the curving driveway, the left-front tire hit and rolled over the boy.
Troopers say Hunter immediately stopped the vehicle.
No further details were immediately available.
