Boy riding bike bitten by dog that broke through fence

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A 7-year-old boy riding a bike was bitten by a dog in Sumter County and was airlifted to the hospital, authorities said Friday.

The dog ran through a fence in a back yard to get to the boy.

Investigators said the boy broke his foot as a result of falling off the bicycle when the dog bit him.

The father said he ran outside and kicked the dog off his son.

The owner said the dog is good with children, but is protective of the yard. The owner gave the dog up to Animal Services freely, and it was taken away.
