Brevard County bans synthetic drugs

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A new ordinance in Brevard County will crack down on synthetic drugs.

Commissioners passed a measure Tuesday that will make the sale, display or marketing of synthetic drugs a county code violation.

The ordinance will regulate products commonly used as alternatives to marijuana, amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy and other illegal drugs.

The products are often sold in liquor stores, smoke shops and convenience stores.

Violators can face a fine of $15,000.
