Brevard deputies say response time appropriate in woman's harassment case

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is defending its response time after a woman said it took deputies nearly 40 minutes to come to her aid.

Melbourne Beach resident Corinne McClanahan called 911, because she said she was being harassed by a stranger at the beach.

The Sherriff's Office said the deputies responded to her call were rerouted for a more serious domestic violence call.

“The deputy that responded in a reasonable amount of time,” said Cpl. David Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. “I think in less than 20 minutes, they were able to get to the scene, and find all the parties involved and conduct a thorough investigation.”

McClanahan said the stranger asked her if he could be a porn star and pointed to his groin.

She took to social media to post pictures she took of the man and warn others in the community.

The post was shared more than 3,500 times.

Deputies interviewed the man but did not arrest him, because they said he did not expose himself.
