Brother of triple shooting victim says sister is in stable condition

ORLANDO, Fla. — The woman who survived a triple shooting that killed two others on Thursday continues to recover in the hospital.

Investigators said Guerline Jean got caught in the middle of a domestic dispute between her friend, Carlene Pierre, and Pierre's ex-boyfriend, Michelet Polynice.  (Read more here)

Polynice showed up at the Quality Suites on International Drive on Thursday and shot and killed Pierre and her co-worker. Investigators said he then took off, tracked down Jean at Westgate Lakes Resort and shot her, too.

Orange County investigators said Jean was at work when she recognized Polynice driving in the parking lot. Investigators said Polynice shot Jean in the stomach.

Jean is a housekeeper at Westgate Lakes Resort on Turkey Lake Road. Two of her brothers also work for the company, and the family is regarded as hard-working.

WFTV's Daralene Jones spoke with Jean's brother on Friday. He said he's been by her side and said she is in stable condition after hours of surgery.

"She's a lovely lady. (She's a) mother of five children. She's a hard worker. She had a supervisory position here at the company," said Jena's co-worker, Ellen Tatich.

We're told Jean encouraged Pierre to file an injunction against Polynice and deputies served him the night before the shooting spree.

"The reason she was an intended target is because she reached out and tried to help her friend in her time of need, so I think that says a lot about who she is," said Tatich.

Tatich was at Harbor House encouraging other companies about the need for domestic violence training as the shooting was going on Thursday.

Westgate Resorts implemented a "domestic violence policy" last month. Executives spent a year training employees on how to recognize victims.
