Crews contain Lake County brush fire

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A brush fire that broke out in Lake County has been contained to about 40 acres, officials said.

The blaze erupted near the border of an old lakebed along County Road 42.

“I remember when I was a kid, we used to swim here,” said resident Don Styer. “Things have changed.”

As of 3 p.m., Third Avenue, Sixth Street and Lakeside Drive were blocked as a precaution for fire crews.

About 10 homes were in immediate danger at one point, but none had to be evacuated, officials said.

“I just want to make sure it don't catch the house on fire,” said Styer.

Firefighters cut lanes and burned backfires to help contain the flames.
