Bull shark bites diver in Riviera Beach

A diver in south Florida is recovering from multiple bites to his arm after he came face-to-face with a bull shark.

Emergency crews said the diver was free diving near a marina in Riviera Beach when the 8-foot shark bit him.

Officials said they believe the diver speared a fish and that attracted the shark's attention.

“He got ripped in his arm right here," Bernard Weinburg said. "His arm was all mangled up. They took him out and put him on a stretcher and put bandages and compresses. Then, they put him together and shipped him out."

Riviera Beach rescue units treated the man, who was then taken to the hospital.

Officials said bull sharks can become very aggressive if they are looking for a meal.
