Car burglary ring busted in Central Fla.

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — Members of an alleged car burglary ring that targeted vehicles in parking lots all of the state were arrested in Central Florida.

Investigators said the thieves started in South Florida and burglarized cars along Interstate 95, Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike before they were caught in St. Cloud.

The thieves smashed a car window in the parking lot of the Aldi Supermarket on 13th St. Tuesday night and took a woman's purse.

"Boy that makes me very concerned, because I come here very often," said St. Cloud resident Marjorie Lynch.

The victims called 911 and as police searched the area, they noticed a suspicious vehicle at the Gold's Gym across the street.

Officers stopped a dodge Avenger they said was driving through the parking lot with its headlights off.

Inside investigators said they found stolen item from other Central Florida burglaries.

"Through the investigative process, through the vehicle search, we were able to make a connection," said St. Cloud Police Sgt. Denise Roberts.

Francisco Rios and Demetrius Townsend were arrested on grand theft charges.

Police said four other suspects got away in another car, while Rios and Townsend served as lookouts.

According to investigators, the duo said the group had been stealing from vehicles all over the state – specifically at fitness centers.

Police are still looking for a silver Mazda 6.

Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to St. Cloud Police.
