Carnival Sunshine to depart on 1st voyage after $155M makeover

The Carnival Sunshine cruise ship is at its new home port after a $155 million makeover.

Port Canaveral's newest ship will bring thousands of passengers to central Florida.

The ship will depart on its first voyage Thursday on a two-day trip to the Bahamas.

The Sunshine will join two other Carnival ships at Port Canaveral, that combined, will result in 600,000 passengers annually.

The Sunshine remodel includes new restaurants, bars and a 334-foot-long water slide, which officials say the longest in the fleet.

Carnival's three Port Canaveral-based ships will operate 250 voyages a year visiting destinations throughout the Caribbean and Florida.

The voyage comes just a day after port commissioners approved two new contracts that will expand the operations of the Norwegian and Royal Caribbean cruise lines.
