Clermont police officer resigns amid investigation

CLERMONT, Fla. — A Clermont police officer, who was the subject of a scathing internal affairs investigation, has resigned.

Officer Joe Avery admitted in the report he lied in a police report from a 2013 domestic dispute.

According to the internal review, he lied to cover up mistakes he made while investigating the incident.

The police department recommended Avery be terminated, but he resigned instead.
