Cocoa man's Thanksgiving potluck brings community together

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A man in Brevard County said steps to crack down on crime is working.

Larry Sinclair began a Thanksgiving potluck last year in efforts for neighbors to talk and get to know one another.

"Neighbors are now talking to each other. They know each other. We're looking out for each other,” Sinclair said. "I've invited over 400 (people).”

Eyewitness News spoke with Sinclair last year after he and nearly 80 other people in the Broadmoor Acres neighborhood in Cocoa installed several surveillance cameras. Anyone in the neighborhood will say crime was a big problem for years.

"Someone kept stealing my car cover off my car,” Ella Adams said.

Adams moved to the neighborhood 23 years ago and told Eyewitness News that she got used to crime, but says she doesn't have to worry about it much anymore.

"Larry came here. That's really what brought about a change; it really did,” Adams said.

"It's definitely a sign of the progress. When I first moved in here, it was a stretch to get even neighbors to talk to each other,” Sinclair said.

Sinclair said the get-togethers like Thanksgiving potluck also reduce crime.
